A Crappy Day…

Today is a crappy day…yes, even I have crappy days.

It started at 5:30 am with a text message from Joey (my marine).  He had worked the inauguration all day and all night.  Poor kid.  The brief message I got made my heart ache for him.  My God, I miss my son!  I don’t think anyone truly understands what it is like to have a family member in the service unless you really do.  I worry and miss him all the time.  At least I do get to see him on occasion.

My dishwasher was broken.  I called the repair guy.  He came out and said it had some broken switch from the pipes being frozen…one more repair bill caused from frozen pipes.  I do have a working dishwasher once again though.  Hopefully we don’t have anymore frozen pipes.

Mikey accidentally unplugged the heater in the basement and guess what…the pipes frozen that supply water to the barn.  Yep, tonight we were hauling water from the kitchen to the barn.  Since I spent extra time in the barn tonight, I noticed one of the goats we took to the farm show has the beginnings of ringworm.  Lovely!  I treated her and inspected everyone else with a magnifying glass.

By far my biggest disappointment today was not being able to purchase 3 nubian does I’ve had my eye on.  I especially wanted one doe and her kids but it doesn’t look like it can happen.  The owner wants them to go now and wants the money now as well.  Although I understand their decision, I just can’t swing it financially with all the frozen pipe repair bills I have.  Maybe if I would be willing to whip out the credit card to pay the repair bills I could have gotten the three does BUT we don’t believe in going into debt.  Especially since I am just about out of debt now.  I guess if it is meant to happen then it will.  Still can’t help but sulk a little.

Oh well, life goes on.  I am pretty sure my doe Abby will be kidding in just of a couple of days.  I just don’t see the poor girl holding on until her due date or after.  Her udder looks like it belongs on a cow, her stomach is hanging really low, and her tail head is raising as well.  Everything is definitely dropping and loosening up.  I am also betting she has at least triplets.  These are Danny Boy’s kids…the first ever and I just can’t wait to see what they look like.  I am so very excited.  If she gives me beautiful doelings maybe I won’t be so disappointed over the other nubian does.

I did get my kids’ bathroom painted.  One more thing off of the chore list.  I am hoping to get the upstairs hallway painted and Vince plans on laying new flooring this weekend.  This will make me happy as well.  I have been living with plywood floors now for 3 years or better.

Ok, I’m over it.  Tomorrow is a new day!

Please keep in mind that I never grew up on a farm, lived in the city or its suburbs all my life. Many farmers out there will find this blog a hoot as I stumble through the every day life of running a farm (most of the time...all by myself).
